Jurong Rock Caverns
The Jurong rock caverns is the world’s first underground commercial rock caverns facility. It is used for storage of liquid hydrocarbons in Southeast Asia. The Jurong Rock Caverns (JVC) is located at an astonishing 150 meters below the ground and 130 meters under Banyan Basin. The JRC is expected to store 1.47 million m3 of liquid hydrocarbons such as condensate and crude oil. The JRC utilizes subterranean storage spaces and ensures the security of all products that are in storage. The JVC also saves approximately 60 hectares of land, which are being used for value added activities such as petrochemicals manufacturing activities. The JVC also complements and enhances the network of integrated infrastructure on the island and reinforces Singapore’s position as one of the leaders in global energy and chemicals hub.
